Our Story
Point Hope Presbyterian Church began in January of 2020 with the goal of establishing a new gospel-centered community of believers on Daniel Island and Cainhoy. The church was started by Rev. Rob Hamby and his family, who were convinced that God was calling them to leave a fruitful ministry in Dallas, TX to begin this new work on the Cainhoy Peninsula of Charleston. By God's grace, what began as a seed in the Hamby’s home, has now taken root and is steadily growing into a beautiful community that meets in the Daniel Island Recreation Center.
New people and businesses continue to flock to Charleston to pursue new opportunities and to enjoy all of the beauty and blessing that the area has to offer. Our natural human tendency is to find our identity and worth in the beauty of God’s creation and what we can build with our own hands. Tragically this leaves us feeling empty and constantly living a life where we are trying to fit in rather than knowing the blessing of what it means to belong. Point Hope Presbyterian Church seeks to point the hearts of Charleston to the hope of the gospel, so that people may know the joy of life in Christ and living in community with his people. As St. Augustine of Hippo said, “You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it finds its rest in you.”
The story of Point Hope continues to unfold as a part of God's much greater and overarching story of redemption. Oneday, someday, God will make all things new — he will make everything the way it is supposed to be. He will transform us into the image of his son and enable us to realize a permanent sense of belonging in his presence with his people. Even now, God is working to finish what he started and we are overjoyed to be working by his side.
